This year you'll find items on each Silent Auction table for bid that aren't your typical take-home prizes.  These are prizes of a different nature - items requested by our faculty to enhance curriculum and student programs!

Enhance the Experience (Fund the Vision Wish Lists)
600
Chi Rho Retreat Tuition
Help to fund the cost of retreat tuition for a student to attend the Chi Rho Retreat.  Based off of a national model used by high schools across the United States, the Chi Rho Retreat is a three-night, four-day experience, led by student leaders that invites attendees to explore their relationship with God.
601
Music Stands
Provide an upgrade to our music department’s supplies with new music stands for the band and choirs to use in class and in performance.  OLSH offers a wide range of music courses for students to develop their talents.
602
Arduino Starter Kits
Provide resources for our engineering applications students to work with Arduino, an open-source prototyping platform, electronics and coding.  These kits offer projects ranging from beginner to more complex to challenge students.  Our goal is to have 10 of these kits for student use.
603
Membean Vocabulary Enrichment Program
This vocabulary software helps students to build deep word consciousness, allowing students to truly learn the meaning of words, rather than just memorize definitions.  For use in English classes, this online program would enrich student learning.  100 student accounts at $12 each are needed to fulfill this wish.
604
Art Supplies
The arts are alive at OLSH with a variety of courses available for students to explore their creativity, passions, and talents, as well as develop skills.  Going beyond the basic drawing and painting, OLSH art classes incorporate techniques using clay, chalk, watercolor, and other mediums.  The more supplies available, the more creative opportunities are opened to students.
605
Auditorium Curtains
Help to replace the side curtains in the auditorium to enhance student performances.  With award-winning music and theatre programs, our students deserve to perform in a high quality space.  Replacing the black curtains on the OLSH stage will allow for more flexibility in staging performance pieces and will upgrade our theatre space.
606
Bus Transportation for Athletic Teams
Help our teams get from game to game without having to fundraise!  Most sports have to rent a bus for each away game, and sometimes even practices! Typically one bus rental costs roughly $250.
607
Reference Database
Student research skills are essential for success in college and the OLSH library would like to augment the online reference database options available for student research. One year’s license for a new database could cost approximately $500.
608
World Language Projectable Flash Cards
Utilizing technology in the classroom is a key part of all of our world language courses, and flash cards and other classroom games are an effective way of teaching language to students. The complete set costs $400.
609
Sectional Tables & Chairs for Cooperative Learning
Math is often considered “hard” by students, but cooperative learning can make a seemingly impossible subject reachable! Sectional tables and chairs make classroom arrangement more flexible and suited to cooperative learning. 24 tables at $100 and chairs at $60 are needed.

Who attends the OLSH Gala?

OLSH parents, alumni, faculty and staff, board members, alumni parents, and friends – it’s a fun night out and a chance to meet others who love and support OLSH, like you!

What are the auctions like?
The Gala offers a Live Auction, typically featuring around 8 prizes ranging from jewelry to art to trips.  The Live Auction is a highlight of the night, even for those not bidding, as professional auctioneers lead bidding wars between guests.  Often tables or groups of friends go in together on prizes, each chipping in to share an experience together.  The Silent Auction features around 75 prizes with starting bids anywhere from $40 - $250.  Prizes include experience packages, jewelry, OLSH-themed items, sports memorabilia, and more.  The Ticket Auction allows guests to purchase tickets ($25 for a sheet) to drop in bags for a chance to win a variety of prizes, like theme packages and unique items.  In addition to the auctions, there are small games of chance, where guests can pay $5-10 for a chance to win a prize.  There are opportunities for guests to get involved at a variety of levels!

What happens with money raised at the Gala?
All proceeds from the Gala support student programs at OLSH, like arts, athletics, curriculum, and activities.

Does anything else happen at the Gala besides the auctions?
This year’s Gala Committee has some surprises up their sleeves for the event to create a fun, party atmosphere!  Also during the evening we recognize a member of the OLSH Community with the annual Legacy Award.  Created in 2009, the Legacy Award recognizes individuals, couples or groups who have helped to preserve the legacy of OLSH. Legacy Awardees have been generous with their time, talent, and treasure, keeping an eye to the future and ensuring generations of students the opportunity to be transformed at OLSH.

How can I get involved with the Gala?
We welcome new members to our Gala committee at any time!  Volunteers work on securing prizes for the auctions, sharing ideas for the nights’ festivities, and helping to staff the event that night. Register to attend the event by clicking the link or button above.  Contact Deena Swank ’92 at dswank@olsh.org or (412) 424-4610 to get involved or for more information.
